jasmine

Carolina Jasmine (Gelsemium sempervirens): Native to the southeastern United States, Carolina Jasmine is widely grown as an ornamental in mild climate areas. Related species are found in China. It is a nice, fast growing, evergreen vine with very sweet, fragrant flowers that appear in late winter or early spring. It is beautiful and easy to grow. Glossy rich green leaves are about 2 to 4" long by 1/2" wide and grow in opposite pairs along wiry stems. The vine can grow 10-20', and is used to quickly cover arbors, tree trunks, trellises and fences. I have planted it to grow around my mailbox.
