When Florida was discovered in 1513 by Juan Ponce de Leon, he named it La Florida, which is spanish for the flowered place. Florida's climate is ideal form growing many different varieties of flowers, herbs, vegetables, trees, shrubs and more. Some of the most beautiful varieties of flowers in North America are grown in Florida.

Temperatures in Florida are more moderate than most parts of the country, but there can be extreme fluctuations during the sooler months which are November through April. May through October we experience the heat problems of the tropics. Incects, including spider mites can be a problem during this time. Less hardy plants must be protected during Florida's unpredictable cold spells. In general a garden of variety can be grown year round. The trick is to be aware of the changing seasons and plant accordingly.
